MedTech West – A Medtech4Health Node

MedTech West is one of six medtech nodes of the national strategic innovation programme Medtech4Health, funded by VINNOVA. In the first call 15 projects, out of over 100 applications, have been awarded a total of MSEK 20 in funding.

MedTech West is a collaborative platform for research, education, development and assessment of new biomedical engineering concepts and technologies in West Sweden.

”We initiate, facilitate and promote research collaboration between healthcare, industry and academia,” says Henrik Mindedal, Director of MedTech West, the Medtech4Health node of West Sweden in the new national strategic innovation programme funded by VINNOVA.

Novel Treatment for Phantom Limb Pain
The growth potential of the Swedish medtech industry is considerable and Medtech4Health is a central way to focus our national efforts so that it may reach its full potential.

The programme has a budget of MSEK 110 for the first three-year period, with an ambition to run it for ten years. ”2016 is the first year with open calls. Over time the programme will grow stronger and become more important,” anticipates Henrik Mindedal.

Two research projects based in West Sweden, both at the Department of Signals and Systems, Chalmers University of Technology, have received funding in the first Medtech4Health call.

”One of the projects comprises a novel treatment for phantom limb pain using machine learning and augmented reality. The other involves new technology for diagnosis of vertigo symptoms,” concludes Henrik Mindedal, who invites anyone interested in applying for funding from Medtech4Health to contact him.
