The foundation of the Mölnlycke brand dates back to 1849. The company originally operated as a textile manufacturer, and in 1997 Mölnlycke Health Care was established as an independent company focusing on the global medical and health care market. The activities of Mölnlycke Health Care today involves collaborating with academic institutes and hospitals all over the world and developing new products that will help create sustainable health care for the future.
Modern development for fast-paced environments
Modern health care systems are under a lot of strain, dealing with an increased number of elderly patients, strapped resources and in some cases increased stress among employees. This calls for new thinking by health care companies. Products and services must be of high-quality, but also affordable and wherever possible create extra value.
“For us, value-added products and services are self-evident”, Fredrik Wallefors, Country Manager Sweden, states. The company operates through two divisions; the Surgical Division and the Wound Care Division. Most of the research and development activities within wound care are located in Gothenburg, Sweden. “There are many examples of globally successful wound care products based on our innovation Safetac® technology, an adhesive technology that minimizes pain when the dressing is removed.”
The development of products for the Surgical Division is scattered across the globe, and the wide range of surgical products is primarily manufactured in Mölnlycke Health Care’s own plants.
“There are plenty of product innovations within the Surgical Division as well. Biogel®, for instance, is our patented inner polymer coating found in our surgical gloves which has led to the development of a variety of Biogel gloves in different styles for different needs. Our ProcedurePak® custom procedure trays is another Mölnlycke Health Care solution”, Fredrik Wallefors continues.
ProcedurePak trays are sterile and contain all the single-use items a surgical team needs for a given surgery – conveniently stacked on a tray in just the order the team needs them. The trays are customized to both the type of surgery and the surgical team. That means less time spent gathering and opening dozens of separate surgical components – valuable time that can be used to treat more patients to better care.
The learning concept
Tracy Tan, the Global HR Director for Leadership and Capability Development, emphasizes the importance of continuous learning in Molnlycke Health Care.

Tracy moved to Gothenburg after running the HR function for Mölnlycke Health Care in Asia-Pacific and is now responsible for the Mölnlycke Health Care overall Learning and development initiatives. “While we are dedicated to investing in our people through learning, we believe that our diversity helps drive innovation and excellence in all that we do. It helps characterize our way of thinking and working”, she concludes.
